New Area Codes To Be
Placed in Service During 2016
02/27/2016 - Ohio - Area code 380 in Ohio is scheduled to be placed into service as overlay of area code 614. Effective January 30, 2016 ten digit dialing in the 614 and 380 area codes will be mandatory.
Ten digit dialing (area code + seven digit number) will be necessary in the 614/380 overlay because two different homes in the same geographic area can have the same seven digit phone number but each would have a different area code.
04/09/2016 - Alberta - Area code 825 in Alberta is scheduled to be placed into service a distributed overlay of area codes 403, 587, and 780. Mandatory ten digit dialing is already required in the existing 403/587/780 overlay area so no change in dialing will be necessary.
05/23/2016 - North Carolina - Area code 743 in North Carolina is scheduled to be placed into service as an overlay of area codes 336. Effective April 23, 2016 ten digit dialing in the 336 and 743 area codes will be mandatory.
06/04/2016 - Ontario - Area code 548 in Ontario is scheduled to be placed into service as a distributed overlay of area code 226 and 519. Mandatory ten digit dialing is already required in the existing 226/519 overlay area so no change in dialing will be necessary.
07/16/2016 - New York - Area code 934 in New York is scheduled to be placed into service as an overlay of area code 631. Effective June 18, 2016 ten digit dialing in the 631 and 934 area codes will be mandatory.
10/17/2016 - Indiana - Area code 463 in Indiana is scheduled to be placed into service as an overlay of area code 317. Effective September 17, 2016 ten digit dialing in the 317 and 463 area codes will be mandatory.

09/17/2016 - Indiana - Mandatory ten-digit dialing begins September 17, 2016 for area codes 463 and 317 in the 317/463 area code overlay.
