New Mexico Area Code Information

New Mexico is currently using two area codes. New Mexico does not utilize any area code overlays

Area code 505 originally covered all of New Mexico when it was established in 1947. It was not until 2007 that New Mexico experienced sufficient growth in population and telephone use to need an additional area code. It was at that time that area code 505 was split to form area code 575.

Today area code 505 covers Albuquerque and Santa Fe and the surrounding metro area and northwestern New Mexico. Area code 575 covers the remainder of the state.
